What type of work are most slaves doing in modern times?
Slavery takes different forms in different lands. In Pakistan and India there is debt bondage. Poor people are tricked with promises of good jobs, but they are isolated and must deal with their employer in every way. The food they buy and other required things are sold only by their employers, with very high prices. The workers are forced to stay and work until the debt is paid off. But the deck is stacked so the debt keeps getting bigger. The "employee" is a slave for life (http://www.injusticeline.com/slave1.html). Although beating seems so old fashioned to many people, this is very naive. It is still commonplace and this is the manner that many salve owners use in order to scare their laborers into submission. A lot of the time, slaves will be injured from such harsh beatings, but they are forced to work through it. Even if the slave is not injured, such constant beatings can put a person into bad shape and they get sick very easily while the body is trying to heal other bruises, cuts and wounds.
